Toy Story 3: The Video Game Revealed For PS3

EnglishSelect a Language:

Countries: AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ

Disney has an exciting announcement to make today regarding Toy Story 3. Not only will the PS3 version exclusively feature the ability to play as Zurg, but it will also include some PlayStation Move minigames. Here’s John Day from Avalanche Software to give you some more info on this game, which will be releasing alongside the movie this Summer.

Hi everybody! This is John at Avalanche Software. We’re hard at work finishing up Toy Story 3: The Video Game, due for release on 16th July. Toy Story 3 is much more than your average movie tie-in game. The game gives players two ways to experience Toy Story 3: Story Mode and Toy Box Mode, a sandbox style of gameplay set in the Toy Story universe.

In Story Mode, the player plays as Buzz, Woody, and Jessie, each with their own unique play style, to play through eight action platforming levels. While not a complete retelling of the movie plot, the player will visit some of the places, and meet some of the new and classic characters that are in the film. We take the player to some totally new places as well. Also in Story Mode, we’ve stashed all of our collectibles. The collectibles, when found, allow the player to unlock new toys for the Toy Box.

Wednesday March 10, 2010

With such a finite sounding title you wouldn't expect 'Final Fantasy' to have another sequel, but Final Fantasy XIII put the number over a dozen. With this many releases under our belt we know now to expect any major cheats for the game, so this is more of a courtesy reminder for fans of the series. You can take a look at the achievements and trophies that are available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively by visiting the links below.

Mailbag - Understanding How Cheat Codes Are Entered

Monday March 15, 2010

It can be difficult to understand how to enter cheat codes, especially if you aren't familiar with video games. For this reason I've created several pages in the past that describe in great detail the steps needed to activate a certain code on a specific gaming platform. Even with this extra material available there are situations where the given code examples may not be enough help. Or even worse, some of the codes add to the confusion. Such is the case of visitor W. Hunter Smith, who sent in the following question.

Question
W. Hunter Smith writes:
I'm new to entering cheats and have run across a couple of websites it appears you (Jason Rybka) put together. At (link) there is a cheat titled "Enable all girlfriends" and it is: WUPB-B7F4-XPX09. However, as 'WUPB'... is totally foreign to me, I found a website on "How to enter PS2 Cheats and codes" at (link). After reading the how to site I still do not understand how I would begin to enter WUPB-B7F4-XPX09, or any other cheat/code on the first link above. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
The reason you're having a problem understanding the code is because the code page you are looking at (the first link) has codes that require the use of a third party cheat device. In this case, the Action Replay Max. Put simply, Action Replay is a cheating device that uses a combination of hardware and software to alter a game's runtime code. For more information on the Action Replay cheat device see here: Action Replay (definition, links).

If you too have landed on this site and aren't exactly sure where to begin, then I suggest reading the following articles. They should bring you up to speed on how cheat codes work, where they come from, how to enter them, and other useful general info on the topic.

What are cheat codes? (are they safe?, what is a cheat device, general info)

Why use cheat codes? (surely you have your own reason, why do you cheat?)

How to enter cheat codes on the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, Wii, DS, DSi.

Guitar Hero Games - How to Combine Most Songs for One Disc Use

Monday March 29, 2010

If you're anything like me then you have several Guitar Hero video games in your collection. This presents a slight problem, as you need to change game discs every so often in order to access the songs you really want to play. Well, not anymore! Using the Guitar Hero VIP Pass feature you can have over 200 songs at your disposal, using just one disk (Band Hero, Guitar Hero 5, or Guitar Hero World Tour).

This functionality isn't new, Activision has offered it as an option for quite some time now, but it appears a lot of people are completely unaware. Here is how this Guitar Hero VIP Pass really works.

For a small fee you download what is called the Guitar Hero VIP Pass to your Gamertag (make sure to purchase it using the Xbox Live enabled account you wish to use with the songs the majority of the time). This purchase allows you to import music tracks from the following games:

Guitar Hero World Tour
Guitar Hero 5
Band Hero
Guitar Hero World Tour DLC (provides compatibility, and two songs I believe)

Obviously this doesn't help for other titles in the series like Metallica, Aerosmith, etc.

It is worth noting that while I use the term import you are really downloading an updated version of each of the songs so they can provide full support for the latest game's set of features.

Do you need the discs from all versions in order to do this? Yes and no. Really all you need is the unique identification number on the back of the game manuals, but if you've lost the manual, or happen to have a used copy, you may be out of luck. Enter the code, pay a small licensing fee (I think it's about 400 Gamerscore points) and download the songs.

The codes are once and done, so once they've been activated (either by you or a previous owner) they can no longer be redeemed for the updated downloads).

At this time it is unclear if Activision intends on making an alternative way to import the songs for gamers who do not have access to their original game manuals.More about: ???--

PS3 Firmware (v3.21) Update - Who Should and Who Shouldn't Update

Thursday April 1, 2010

Sony has released the newest iteration of the PlayStation 3 system device firmware version 3.21, and as with all updates, we'll take a closer look before proceeding. There are times when these type of system updates tend to have very minor feature enhancements, with security updates and possibly the removal of some popular functions. This appears to be the case with 3.21, as it removes the "Other OS" functionality of the PS3 altogether. For some, this is a deal-breaker, but for most casual users this should be a standard upgrade

You'll need to update to play certain PS3 games and Blu-ray discs, so if you intend on having full functionality, consider this a required upgrade. In other words, If you don't plan on hacking your PS3 or installing another operating system such as Linux on your PS3, then you can stop reading now and proceed with your PS3 update. Sony states there are "security concerns" with the Other OS functionality active. Keep note that in order to sign in to the PlayStation Network and use online enabled features you will need to perform this update.

Special note to PS3 users that have used or are using the "Other OS" feature currently: Should you decide to update your PS3 firmware to v3.21 it will delete any data you have in the other operating system, so be sure you back up your data before upgrading.

Other notable losses from the v3.21 firmware update is the ability to play back Blu-ray Disc videos and PS3 games that require the use of firmware v3.21 or higher. You can read more about the update at Sony's blog.

FYI; Yes, this was posted on April 1st. No, this is not a joke or an April Fool's Day prank.

People know I'm into video games (ok, obsessed with them), and they know I own an iPhone, and that I really dig music games. So let me answer a question that I get quite often; Is Rock Band on the iPhone any good and what songs are on it? Simple one.

Yes, its a fun game to play, and from what I recall it is now down to about $7, so its worth the money as well.

As for the songs, well the list is just below. Have any questions or comments you know where the comment form is at (if you aren't sure, scroll down a bit).

Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype Coming To PSN In May

Countries: AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ

Hi everyone, this is Tet from eastasiasoft. In partnership with SideQuest Studios, I’ve been co-producing our upcoming PS3 shoot ‘em up game Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype, expected to hit the PlayStation Network in the coming month.

Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype is the successor to our 2008 released PS3 game Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer (yes, unless you are fluent in German, that was the game with the impossible-to-pronounce name). Gameplay wise Söldner-X 2 is taking you back to the roots of the classical 2D shoot ‘em up (or also referred to as ’shmup’) genre, audio-visually combined with what the PS3 has to offer. In this horizontal-scrolling shmup, it’s your mission to protect the galaxy from the D’aarg, a technologically superior race that is threatening mankind.

To leave it plain and simple for now, during the seven stages of the game, you can expect nothing but pure action with hundreds of enemies to shoot down, thousands of bullets to evade and huge boss battles to be fought.

Well, I guess I could go on and on for a while, so I’m trying to make it short. In Söldner-X 2 you can expect high-definition graphics with classical 2D gameplay, combined with 3D backgrounds in up to 1080p, exciting bullet patterns that require your best skills, powerful weapons, limit attacks and fourfold chaser system, a newly-designed chaining system, detailed online high score ranking tables with replay file sharing, an adrenaline pumping soundtrack with 30 unique tracks and so much more.

Finally, I’m pleased to present you a first look at Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype in action. Check out our launch trailer and don’t forget to watch out for Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype when it’s hitting the PlayStation Store in May 2010. As you can probably feel, I’m already more than excited!
